“The Mother of Ghost”

Lucy Clark was my paternal great-grandmother who lived to be 103. She met me for a brief moment when I was born but died soon after. I thought,” What it must have been like to see and live so much life and in the same breath witness 100 years of death. She stewarded a husband, child, and grandchildren into the afterlife hence the title, “The Mother of Ghost”. This painting/quilt hybrid aims to convey the notion that rest is the key to longevity. Pictured in her “haint blue” gown she warded off the evils of capitalism.
